On the afternoon of August 1, local time in Kenya, Cai Dianwei, Chairman of Hunan Construction Investment Group (HCIG), led a delegation to visit the Embassy of China in Kenya and the Economic Counselor’s Office. They held talks and discussions with Zhang Yijun, the Economic and Commercial Counselor at the embassy, on the HCIG’s expansion of the infrastructure construction market in Kenya, as well as Kenya’s current and future economic development.

Counsellor Zhang Yijun, on behalf of ambassador Zhou Pingjian, who was away on official business, welcomed the arrival of Cai Diwei and his delegation, thanked HCIG for its contribution to the development and project construction of Kenya, and introduced the embassy's active actions in the preparatory process of the previous China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, as well as the current situation of Kenya's economic and social development. He expressed that in view of the current changes in the economic situation in African countries, enterprises can explore new cooperation models such as investment plus construction, and the embassy and the Economic Counselor’s Office will support the related work carried out by HCIG.

Cai thanked the Embassy and the Economic Counselor’s Office for their long-term trust, guidance and support and presented the overall picture of HCIG's international business and the development status of its overseas institutions in Kenya. He said that the two national platforms of "China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo" and "China-Africa Advanced Economic and Trade Cooperation Pilot Zone" have been settled in Hunan, and as a large state-owned enterprise belonging to Hunan Province, HCIG has undertaken important tasks. For a long time, HCIG has been deeply engaged in the construction engineering market in Kenya and neighboring countries, and has completed a series of high-quality construction projects such as road bridges, water supply and drainage, large venues, municipal, airport, and agricultural infrastructure, making contributions to the construction and development of the region. Two projects are currently under construction in Kenya, the Mombasa Municipal Road and the China-Africa Economic and Trade Industrial Incubation Park, as well as the BOSTO Dam and the MZIMA Phase II water supply project, which are being promoted. He expressed his sincere hope that the embassy would continue its attention and support.

The visit and discussion of the delegation has promoted the understanding of the Embassy and the Economic Counselor’s Office to HCIG, and will help HCIG to further expand the Kenyan national market, jointly build and share the results of the "Belt and Road" Initiative, and contribute more strength of Hunan state-owned enterprises to promote the friendship between the two countries and the economic and social development of Kenya.
