Recently, Ghana’s third Confucius Institute was officially unveiled at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana’s second largest city. The Confucius Institute is a joint venture between Hubei University of Automotive Technology and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana. The university received approval from the Chinese International Education Foundation in March 2023 and received the nameplate of the Confucius Institute in September of the same year. This is the third Confucius Institute officially established in Ghana, which reflects China’s emphasis on Ghana’s unique regional influence, especially its status as an educational hub. It is also the latest fruit of the traditional friendship between China and Ghana, and a milestone in people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two countries. The establishment of the Confucius Institute demonstrates the continued deepening of educational cooperation between Ghana and China and will help Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology become a Chinese teaching demonstration site in central and northern Ghana. Meanwhile, it will provide a better platform for the school’s international promotion of Chinese language, scientific research, industry-university-research cooperation, and inter-school exchanges, so that the school’s students will have good academic literacy to cope with more challenges.

Li Yaohong, Counselor of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Ghana, Francis Yaw Opoku, Minister counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in China, and relevant persons in charge of SHICO Ghana Branch attended the unveiling ceremony.
